Over $262 million from Ottawa is helping build 691 new homes in northern and Indigenous communities in Ontario.
There are two projects, worth a total of $12.5 million involving Nipissing First Nation’s Elder’s Lodge.
One is for ten units in Duchesnay and another ten in Garden Village.
Meantime, a $2.6 million project involves Dokis First Nation and seven new units.
“Everyone deserves a place to call their own, and the Affordable Housing Fund and Rapid Housing Initiative are two programs through which we’re helping make that a reality for Canadians,” says Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities. “We will keep investing in housing projects like the ones announced today for Ontario, and working with partners across the country, to end the housing crisis.”
Money for all three of the projects in our area is coming the Rapid Housing Initiative.
