Charges filed after domestic disturbance turned barricaded person incident

Ontario Provincial Police report an arrest after seven hours of negotiations involving a barricaded person in Papineau-Cameron.  

The North Bay OPP says officers and paramedics responded to a report of intimate partner violence on Richards Roads at about 10:45 am Sunday, Dec. 8.  

The victim was safely removed from the property by police and taken to hospital for treatment.   

Police say the incident evolved into a barricaded person situation with several OPP units involved, including the Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Crisis Negotiators, Aviation Services, and Critical Incident Command.   

An arrest was made at about 6 pm with a 45-year-old resident facing seven charges: 

  • Assault causing bodily harm – spousal – two counts
  • Assault with a weapon – spousal
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Uttering treats to cause death or bodily harm

The accused was held in custody for a Dec. 9 court appearance in North Bay.
