Crime Stoppers targeting fentanyl and firearms

Fentanyl and firearms are the focus for Near North Crime Stoppers (NNCS) this year.

The organization is guaranteeing its maximum $2,000 reward for any information submitted that leads to an arrest for crimes involving fentanyl, or the use of a firearm in a drug-related offence.

Officials say the initiative underscores their commitment to tackling crime and building safer communities through anonymous reporting, proactive initiatives and strong partnerships.

“Fentanyl and firearm incidents are increasing in our region,” says Brad Reaume, Lead Detective with the North Bay Police Service Criminal Investigations and Street Crime Unit.  “We’re thankful to have organizations like Crime Stoppers.”

Brandon Fenton, NNCS board chair says last year was another milestone year for them.

“We received more than 1,000 tips from people across the Nipissing and Parry Sound districts. Those tips led to 36 arrests, cleared 19 cases, and recovered $113,676 in cash, drugs and property,” he says. “Eighty-two per cent of tips were submitted anonymously online, which really highlights the growing trust in our digital platform.”

‘Empowering through Education, Preventing through Action’ is the Crime Stoppers theme for 2025.
