Nipissing Lakers Shoot for Change this Saturday

The 4th annual Nipissing Lakers Shoot for Change Anti-Racism basketball game is on the hardwood Saturday.

With1VoiceNight provides students with a platform to advocate for marginalized communities and raise funds for the Warren Lindsay Bursary.

The Nipissing University Black Association for Student Expression (NUBASE) and Lakers Basketball are teaming up for the event.

“This game is about more than basketball,” says student-athlete and NUBASE member, Javayah Pettigrew-Hope. “It’s about celebrating community, raising awareness about racism, and supporting students of colour through the Warren Lindsay Bursary. We hope to see the community come out in full force to cheer on the Lakers and support this important cause.”

Since its inception, Shoot for Change has raised over $26,000.

“Shoot for Change highlights the incredible power of student leadership and the meaningful difference NUBASE and our Lakers community make when they come together to advocate for each other,” says Dr. Kevin Wamsley, President and Vice-Chancellor at Nipissing University. “We are proud to support this meaningful, student-led event and look forward to seeing the community fill the stands in support.”

Nipissing’s women’s team plays Ontario Tech at 6 pm Saturday at the R.J. Surtees Student Athletics Centre, with the Lakers men’s team taking on the Ridgebacks at 8 pm.

Tickets can be purchased at the door. For more information or to donate, visit https://events.nipissingu.ca/shootforchange
