(Update 7pm Saturday) Trout Creek was not one of the top 4 announced in the Hockeyville contest.

The Trout Creek Community Centre has a mountain of support in the Kraft Hockeyville competition.

Across Canada, nearly 1,500 arenas are nominated.

Trout Creek has garnered nearly 1,300 story submissions, over 4,000 rally photos and more than 1,300 rally notes.

Points are given for each submission with the contests’ judges currently reviewing nominations, calculating total scores, and select the finalists with the highest scores.

We’ll find out who made the top four on Saturday, March 15.

A watch party (doors open at 6 pm) is taking place at the Trout Creek Community Centre, with people asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the Powassan Food Bank.

The Hockeyville grand prize is $250,000 towards arena upgrades and the opportunity to host an NHL Pre-Season hockey game.

Three runner-up prizes of $25,000 towards arena upgrades will also be awarded.

Other area rinks nominated with a handful of stories, photos and rally notes include the Astorville Arena, Burk’s Falls Arena, Mattawa’s Mike Rodden Arena, North Bay’s Memorial Gardens and West Ferris Arena, the Powassan Sportsplex and Le Centre Témiscaming.

Elliot Lake won the contest last year, with Ottawa and Pittsburgh playing a pre-season game in Sudbury last September.

In 2007, North Bay was named Hockeyville with the Atlanta Thrashers and New York Islanders playing an exhibition game at Memorial Gardens.
