Mother St. Bride (MSB) School on Second Avenue in North Bay, along with the child care centre, is closed Wednesday (March 19).
Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board officials say there was a small fire in a dishwasher in the child care centre just after 6 pm on Tuesday.
They say staff activated the fire alarm with North Bay Fire and Emergency Services dispatched to put out the fire.
The board says there were no children in the building at the time.
A restoration crew is onsite to deal with the lingering smell of smoke and the school will be closed Wednesday to allow for it to dissipate.
The school is expected to will reopen on Thursday with the board updating parents through its usual channels.
