Evacuation support continues in Mattawa in the wake of Saturday’s severe storm.

It left a swath of downed trees and power lines, washed out roads and impacted cell service.

The town says its Recreation, Fire, and Public Works departments are working with several agencies to support those evacuated to the Mike Rodden Arena.

Those agencies include the Red Cross, Global Medic, Ontario Provincial Police, Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management Ontario along with local service groups, businesses, and families.

“We appreciate the continued efforts of our staff, volunteers and the community as we work to return these families home safely,” reads a post on social media.

Officials also say Highway 630 repairs begin Monday.

In Calvin, where the township says all municipal roads were compromised, crews were getting an early start on repairs on Monday.

They continue to ask drivers to use caution and avoid unnecessary travel within the municipality.

In Bonfield, the township says most roads have considerable washouts.

Officials reported Sunday night that Pine Lake Road is back open with one-lane of traffic, Talon Lake Road remains closed to non-essential traffic and McNutt Road is closed.

They also say Line 3 is open, but the sides still have considerable washouts.

States of emergency are ongoing in both Calvin and Bonfield.

As efforts continue to return the hardest hit areas of Saturday’s storm to normal, officials are highlighting the team effort that answered the call for help.

The Calvin Fire Department says that includes Ontario Provincial Police, fire departments in Mattawa, East Ferris, Bonfield, North Bay and West Nipissing, paramedics, Ornge Air Ambulance, the Ministry of Natural Resources and provincial parks officials, and more.
