The roar of the CF-18 Hornet aircraft was matched by the roar of the crowd at North Bay’s waterfront on Armed Forces Day.
There were ground displays of military equipment, there were air displays of military techniques and an overall display of pride for the Armed Forces.

22 Wing Commander Colonel Henrik Smith says he was happy to see all the young kids at the event. Smith says it means Canadians are continuing to discuss the important role the Armed Forces has. He says it’s thanks to the teachers and the veterans groups who keep history alive.
The day also featured aerial parachute show from the SkyHawks: Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team.

They dazzled the crowd with various formations in the sky and smoke effects before coming in for a smooth landing on Marathon Beach.
22 Wing Commander Colonel Henrik Smith says this recognizes the sacrifice of the men who dropped into the beaches of Normandy on D-Day.

He says they make sure kids understand why the soldiers of World War II did what they did and there is a link to what today’s soldiers are doing.
