The H.P. Broughton Trophy is awarded annually to Sault Ste. Marie’s sportsperson of the year.
On Tuesday it was given to North Bay Battalion Captain Mike Amadio. The Soo native had a great year for the North Bay OHL club and went on to play for the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League.
In his fourth year in North Bay Amadio piled up 50 goals and 48 assists in 68 games.
In the OHL coaches poll Amadio earned the top spot in four categories: smartest player, hardest worker, best defensive forward and player with the best shot.
Amadio said in a release the 50 goals he scored was a career highlight for him and he’s hoping to play a full season of AHL hockey with the Reign, starting this fall.
