Advisor has no anxiety over TransCanda conversion project

TransCanada’s pipeline conversion plan doesn’t cause any anxiety to Engineer Ivan Filion.

The project would convert a natural gas pipeline into a crude oil line near Trout Lake.

Filion says he was recently given a firsthand look at the technology TransCanada is using in their safety checks – and it all checks out. He says says the technology for their in-line inspection is state of the art and the company is doing its due diligence.

He says everything they’ve done is perfectly reasonable from an engineering standard.

Filion explained that there is a multifaceted approach to safety within a pipeline so they aren’t relying on just one single technology and TransCanada is doing exactly that.

The Pipeline Inspection Gauge is used to detect abrasions the size of a dime inside the pipeline. It relays information to TransCanada and they can pinpoint the exact location of where any abnormalities have occurred.

This is one of the tools they use as a long term proactive approach to any safety measures that need to be taken.

The Pipeline Inspection Gauge is used not only by TransCanada but by other pipeline companies across the world.

Filion says this technology shows this is one of many layers TransCanada is putting in place to make the conversion as safe as it can. He says from an engineer’s prospective this meets all the requirements necessary to move forward with a large scale project.
