There could be a casino in North Bay’s downtown area one day.
The city has received a report on rezoning the former Kenroc site as a potential landing destination for a casino. Chair of Community Services Mark King says there are many more steps before council even accepts the rezoning proposal. He says the report will go through the various stages of the Planning Advisory Committee before coming back to council.
King says this is the very earliest stage of North Bay opening its own casino and he expects lots of feedback as the process plays out.
He says there have already been people asking about what the process will mean for people who work and live in the area and there will be answers when they become available.
King says the proponents still have to convince Ontario Lottery and Gaming that they can make all five proposed casinos work in their respective markets in northern Ontario.
The Chair says they also rezoned the old Sweetwater site as a potential destination. He’s hearing a private owner has land across from that site and may look to put in a proposal to rezone that land as well for this purpose.
