Students in grade 1 to grade 4 continue to learn this summer. The Near North District School Board offered five Power Readers Camps and two Power Math Camps this month in North Bay, Burk’s Falls and McDougall with 140 students taking part. With funding through the Council of Ontario Directors of Education the 3-week opportunity to enhance learning, which began at the beginning of July, has been offered free to participating families. The purpose of the Power Learning Camps is to focus on the development of reading, writing, and mathematics skills, in small and whole group opportunities, through engaging experiences of the children’s interests. Each camp day includes healthy, mindful Brain Gym experiences, focused learning, hands-on opportunities, applying mathematics thinking to nutritious snack preparation, and a recreation program that infuses literacy and mathematics into the play in and outdoors.
