The Liberal throne speech is taking place today at noon, and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is hoping the government actually acknowledges that major changes are needed in the province going forward.
Horwath says kids and parents alike are worried about the future of Ontario. There’s no decent work, hydro rates are soaring, the health care and education systems are crumbling. She believes we’re at a point of no return, hitting the wall so to speak. Horwath says the throne speech better be about taking real action on these issues.
Much has been made since the decision to prorogue the government about a reset for the Liberals. But Horwath hopes this isn’t another case of the government doing things for themselves, as opposed to doing things for the people of Ontario. She wants to see a stop to the Hydro One sell off, real investment in the health care system, and support for good jobs. Horwath mentioned a 15 dollar minimum wage as something she’d like to see in the future as well.
Asked whether or not the Wynne government can regain the trust of the people, Horwath says if the throne speech today isn’t about the people of Ontario we’ll see more disappointment. That Ontario will dive further into a place where people won’t be able to see any hope for the future. Horwath says that is definitely not what this great province should be offering to people.
