MPP Vic Fedeli says he was disappointed with no real changes being presented in the Liberal throne speech.
He called the rebates on hydro “too little too late”. Fedeli says this does nothing to fix the underlying financial issues with hydro. Fedeli says costs are still going to rise every month. The government is borrowing a billion dollars a year to artificially lower rates, and that billion dollars needs to be paid back with interest.
That’s going to add even more costs to hydro bills according to Fedeli. Fedeli believes the real way to fix hydro costs is to stop signing contracts for energy we don’t need, and to stop the sale of Hydro One. Those are the main things increasing costs.
Fedeli says there was a real opportunity to address the underlying financial crisis in Ontario, but the government hasn’t done that. There was a real opportunity to fix the hydro crisis, but Fedeli says instead the government put a band-aid on the problem. He believes everything that’s been done, seems to benefit the Liberal party and not the people of Ontario.
When the legislature opens today, Fedeli says he isn’t going to let this hydro issue go. He believes we need structural changes in how we obtain hydro. Fedeli’s hydro petition is continuing, and he will be reading some of the signatures and comments that he’s already received today.
