North Bay Police Service Sergeant Mike Hunter was honoured with the Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal for his service in Afghanistan.
Hunter was presented the medal at the North Bay Police Service’s board meeting yesterday. In 2011, he joined the European Union Police Mission through the RCMP International Police Peace Operations Program for a year. He worked in the field implementation office overseeing reconstruction team training and mentoring Afghanistan National Police.
Sgt. Hunter has been a police officer since 1987 and is currently assigned Sergeant on platoon. He has served in the Service’s criminal investigations, street crime, traffic and patrol sections. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves for four years. In 2010, he was awarded the Arthur Troop Scholarship to travel to the Gimborn Academy in Germany to study UN policing.
Once there he spent time with police services in Köhn and Koblenz, where he gained experience with their river, helicopter and tactical units. Sergeant Hunter currently serves as Officer in Charge for the North Bay Police Service’s Emergency Response Team, Executive Director on the North Bay Police Association, member of Critical Incident Debriefing Team, Colour Sergeant for the North Bay Police Service’s Ceremonial Unit, and member of the International Police Association.
