The results from the final day of the North Bay Police’s traffic campaign are in.
Eight drivers were hit with speeding tickets in the School Safety Zone on Algonquin Avenue on Friday. The highest speed registered was 74 kilometres an hour in the 40 zone. Five drivers were also issued speeding tickets in the Safety Zone on O’Brien Street. The highest speed registered there was 58 kilometres an hour.
Despite those numbers, Constable Ken Ayres says police have noticed more people reducing their speed in the safe zones over the course of the campaign. Ayres says the drivers who slow down should be commended for respecting the rules the road. Because of their actions, drivers behind them had no choice but to also reduce their speeds. Ayres says thanks to those people, the roads are safer for students in those areas.
And while Friday was the end of the traffic enforcement campaign, officers will continue to monitor traffic and enforce traffic laws around North Bay and Callander. This will include school zones, community safety zones, along school bus routes, and at school crossings.
