Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli recently spoke about the issue of a lack of moose tags in Northern Ontario at Queen’s Park after spotting a dead moose on the highway. He says he took a picture of the moose, shared it on Facebook and minutes later, the stories and photos flooded in. Fedeli says the lack of moose tags is leading to accidents.
Fedeli met with citizens from Powassan at Echoes Restaurant, and they told him how upset they were that only one moose tag had been issued this year. 106 were issued back in 2013, and Fedeli says this is their heritage and it’s being lost.
Fedeli added another personal story about moose before wrapping up, stating that a few kilometres up the road from the first moose he saw on the highway, was another one that had been hit by a friend in his week-old jeep. Fedeli finished by pressing the government to issue the proper number of moose tags to preserve heritage in Northern Ontario, and for the sake of safety.
