The Nipissing First Nation Band Council has banned gill netting on Lake Nipissing until the spring. This is after concerns were raised about the health of the walleye population. The First Nation community is considering shutting down gill netting completely, but there are some people who still depend on fishery. Over 200 community members attended two consultation meetings held by the band.
