The Almaguin Highlands OPP is pleased to announce that they did not charge any drivers for impaired offences this past long weekend.
Two drivers, however, have been charged with distracted driving (drive with hand-held communication device).
Distracted driving offences for A-G class licences carry a $490 fine, a fine of up to $1,000 if a summons is issued or if you fight the ticket in court and lose, and three demerit points.
Novice drivers (G1, M1, G2, M2) face a 30-day licence suspension for a first distracted driving conviction, a 90-day suspension for a second conviction, cancellation of your licence and removal from graduated licencing system upon a third conviction, after which, to regain your driver’s licence, you would have to start the program over from the beginning.
Officers issued 73 tickets, including 61 speeding tickets, and responded to 62 calls for service while also conducting several R.I.D.E. programs in the area.
