The name is Bank, Food Bank

Organizers believe that Mayor Al McDonald’s James Bond-themed charity event could be the biggest fundraiser in the city’s history.

Mark Deacon, one of the event’s organizers says that he does not want to put the cart before the horse, but all signs point to the event pulling in record amounts to benefit the North Bay Food Bank, Canadore College’s Emergency Student Food Bank, and Creative Industries.

Deacon says that even if the record is not broken, the event will bring in some needed funding for deserving charities.

Katharine Strang, chair of the North Bay Food Bank’s board, says that the Food Bank has seen increases in usage and several first-time clients. Strang adds that back to school time can be stressful for parents, especially when money is tight. Strang says that the Food Bank’s doors are open to all and that no person should be ashamed to come through the doors.

The Casino Royale event is being catered for tapas-style appetizers by 13 of North Bay’s finest restaurants, according to Deacon. Professional dealers will man the gaming tables and there are some big-ticket silent auction items up for grabs. Moose FM’s Mike Monaghan will serve as master of ceremonies for the night.

Organizers say approximately 50 tickets remain at $125 each.
