It’s the end of an era for one of North Bay’s most visible department stores.
Sears, a prominent North Bay staple easily seen from the Highway 11/17 bypass, and once an anchor store for the Northgate Shopping Centre, has closed its doors for good as of 9:00pm last night.
A judge’s ruling in October allowed Sears Canada to liquidate its assets and close its remaining 130 stores after a late bid to save the company by its owners fell short.
A reported 85 jobs will be lost locally, among the 12,000 employees to be laid off across Canada.
