One hundred motor vehicle collisions in January

During the month of January 2018, the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the following incidents:

  • 3 Impaired Driving Incidents
  • 100 Motor Vehicle Collisions
  • 1 Fatal Motor Vehicle Collisions (causing three deaths)

North Bay OPP Detachment Commander, Staff Sergeant Chris Summersby says, “If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, or public transit, stay overnight or stay home.”

Summersby adds “winter weather conditions can change quickly, placing extra demands on your vehicle and your driving skills. The winter months are a particularly important time to stay focused on the road and on other vehicles, and eliminate all distractions.”
