First Nations have a new Ontario Regional Chief.
She’s RoseAnne Archibald from the Tagwa Tagamou Nation just outside Cochrane and she is the first female Regional Chief in Ontario’s history.
Archibald defeated Isadore Day, the former Chief of the Serpent River First Nation west of Sudbury.
The final round of voting in the traditional stand-up election saw Archibald with 67 votes, incumbent Day with 36 votes and Ava Hill with 13 votes.
Day was going after his third term as Regional Chief.
The election took place at the annual All Ontario Chiefs’ Conference at the Nipissing First Nation Wednesday morning.
