Wright makes brief court appearance in Sudbury

The man charged with the first-degree murder of Renee Sweeney appeared in a Sudbury court today.

Robert Steven Wright, 39, was arrested yesterday at the North Bay Regional Health Centre where he worked as a lab technician.

In 1998, investigators say Sweeney’s killer left DNA on her body, as well as on a coat thrown away and discovered after the killing. Police say Wright has been tied to the case forensically.

Wright did appear briefly but his bail hearing has been postponed until December 20.

Greater Sudbury Police say in a release, detectives have executed three search warrants at various locations associated to Wright and have started examining the items seized during the warrants since his arrest.

The GSPS investigators “continue to interview potential witnesses and are in the process of reviewing all of the information that has been received in an effort to determine any link between him and Renee.
