One-minute HIV tests available today

Today, the AIDS Committee of North Bay & Area will hold its second annual National HIV Testing Day and this year’s theme is “Know Your Status,” as one-in-five Canadians living with HIV are unaware that they have HIV.

The North Bay edition of the national event runs from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the ACNBA offices, located at 201-269 Main Street West. Staff members from the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit will be on hand to conduct free one-minute tests and ACNBA supportive staff will be available to answer your questions and link you to care if test results
are HIV-positive.

The National HIV Testing Day event is organized by the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS), local community organizations and health authorities across Canada. An estimated 70
communities will be offering free point-of-care testing to know your status in only one minute.

Gary Lacasse, CAS Executive Director stated, “Building on the success of last year, this event is truly about normalizing HIV testing, increasing Canadians’ capacity to make
informed decisions regarding their own sexual health, and decreasing stigma.”
