Delays at ‘blasted’ Seymour intersection

With North Bay firmly in the grips of construction season, here is another potential delay to add to your “avoid if possible” list.

The contractor for the Highway 11/17 and Seymour Street intersection reconstruction project is completing rock drilling and blasting north of Seymour Street for sewer installation.

As a result, additional delays will be experienced by travellers but the blasting will be limited to between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm to avoid commuting times. The contractor confirms the intersection will be “operating normally outside of those hours,” although reports say the queue from the lights at Seymour Monday morning stretched beyond the bridge connecting Highway 17 to Highway 11 southbound.

These delays are necessary for safety reasons during blasting operations over the next two weeks. The City of North Bay, MTO, and contractor are “aware of and appreciate the need to maintain traffic through the Highway 11/17 and Seymour Street corridors but the necessary work must be completed responsibly and safely.”

Drivers are advised to leave extra time or take an alternate route.
