Near North Students ‘Helping from Home’

Students at the Near North District School Board are stepping up to help the COVID-19 Emergency Shelter.

Officials say the Helping from Home campaign, which runs in partnership with the YMCA and Nipissing Mental Health Housing and Support Services will see students engage in caring citizenship while remaining safe at home.

“Our community is facing the COVID-19 challenge together. The NNDSB is doing everything we can to keep families safe and healthy, and to be a strong community partner,” explained Jay Aspin, Chair, Board of Trustees. “Emergency shelters are a vital service in our community, which supports the homeless to stay safe and healthy. Our Board of Trustees is proud of our students and their continued efforts to support our community and our most vulnerable citizens.”

The campaign asks students and their families to spread the word, give what they can, and share the link to a donation page. School board officials say all the proceeds will go straight to the shelter to purchase items like food, cots, blankets, shampoo, and soap.
