The North Bay Police Service has officially altered their uniform.
Officers will now be seen on duty wearing… a ball cap.
According to the NBPS, officers had requested a new and modern alternative to the traditional Peak Cap.
“The old Peak Cap was difficult to keep clean and was too large to carry in patrol vehicles so that it could be worn,” said NBPS Chief Scott Tod. “Members will continue to wear the Peak Cap when in official dress uniform while attending ceremonial events. The members asked for something that was practical, useful, and reflected well on the service. The new hat offers protection from the sun and other weather.”
“I’m not exactly sure how long officers here have been asking for it, but there’s a general push towards the ball caps from other police services such as Sudbury, Toronto, Kitchener… etc,” said NBPS Community Safety Coordinate John Schultz. “The Peak Cap is cumbersome and has a bigger size. In the day-to-day workings, a baseball cap is more efficient for us as well as more economical.
North Bay Police Association President Aaron Northrup said that “Our members love the new caps. It’s lighter and more comfortable than the Peak Cap headgear yet still supplies environmental protection. It is another progressive move made by Chief Tod.”
