After a season lost to COVID-19, the Powassan Voodoos are expecting to be back on the ice this coming NOJHL season.
The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced their plans for the 2021-22 season.
The League says all of their clubs are scheduled to play 27 home games, 27 on the road and two games as a part of the NOJHL Showcase in mid-January.
Officials say all of the dates remain tentative, pending approval on a return to play from provincial, regional and municipal health authorities as it relates to COVID-19 restrictions and regulations.
The season is expected to start Thursday, September 16th and wrap up on Sunday, March 13.
Given the unknowns around COVID-19, the NOJHL says teams will play within their own division only until the Christmas break.
All inter-divisional games will be played in the New Year.
There’s no mention of in-person fan attendance in the release.
However, further announcements involving the upcoming season are expected in the coming days and weeks.
Meantime, the NOJHL has appointed a Toronto-based Sports Medicine Physician as its Chief Medical Officer.
The league says Dr. Tim Rindlisbacher currently serves as the CMO with the Ontario Hockey Federation and as a consultant to the National Hockey League Players’ Association.
