Clean Green Beautiful future initiatives include public art

As beautification and clean-up efforts continue across the city, Clean Green Beautiful North Bay is detailing some of their future initiatives.

Engagement Committee Members Hariett Madigan and Nathan Jensen presented to Council on Tuesday night.

Jensen says they’re working on a school grants program, storm sewer adoption program and they’re considering developing a Clean Green Beautiful Walking Tour.

He also says they’re looking to contribute to the beauty of the city through public art.

“We’re planning to develop an art project similar to the traffic box program that is already running in the city, with the aim of wrapping beautiful art inspired by the environment around the metal garbage bins at the waterfront and other parks around the city,” he says.

Jensen says they plan to approach the city and public art advisory committee to help with the selection of art over the winter.

“We hope to have the art installed next spring and summer and this will really be our first foray into fulfilling this goal of contributing to public art,” he says. “We do hope that this will lead to further opportunities to collaborate with the City of North Bay on larger installations such as public sculpture.”

Madigan says they’ll be submitting an application this year to be a part of Communities in Bloom in 2022.

“We will compete at a provincial level against other cities our size, to be designated the most beautiful city of our size in Ontario,” she says.

She also says the group is looking to become a non-profit organization and foresee the need for sustainable funding to continue as a non-profit.
