Another chance to hear from all of the municipal election candidates in North Bay is coming up this weekend.
The North Bay Elks Lodge is hosting two events on Saturday, Oct. 15.
Michael Hutchison, Vice President, says from 1 pm to 4 pm there will be a casual meet and greet, trade show-style event with the candidates.
That will be followed by a series of mini-debates from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.
All of the candidates are included and Hutchison says that’s key because there are ten councillor seats up for grabs.
“They’re the ones that really drive the direction of the city, so we wanted to make sure that those councillor candidates had a chance to speak and not just speak to the issues that they see, but also address some concerns from the public,” he says.
Hutchison says the goal is to have 4-5 councillor candidates, a mix of incumbent and new, along with one of the mayoral candidates on the stage at any time.
The Elks Lodge earlier put out the call for questions from the public.
“We’re north of 20 questions that have been asked,” Hutchison says. “We’ve also received 20 emails with multiple questions contained within those emails.”
He says a committee will be reviewing all of the questions on Friday and then select the ones to be used during the debates.
Both events are free to attend, but the Elks Lodge is accepting donations for the food bank.
For those who can’t be at the mini-debates in person, a live stream has been set up and will go active at 6:30 pm on Saturday: https://vimeo.com/759919979
