New digital arts initiative for youth in North Bay

Digital Creator North is coming to Downtown North Bay.

Officials say the digital arts initiative encourages youth, ages 11-19, to explore the world of digital media through technology and software.

Officials say Digital Creator North, which is located on the lower level of the Capitol Centre, offers a free, safe and welcoming place for youth to gather, socialize and be creative.

“By strengthening their creative voices teens can become producers of culture rather than consumers, and gain the digital confidence to make a positive contribution to their own communities,” states a release. “Now more than ever where you’re from isn’t as important as what you know.”

The program offers free workshops and activities in a variety of areas including video and film production, photography, audio recording, graphic design, gaming, podcasting, coding, web development and animation.

An open house and launch event is taking place from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Along with tours, activities will include light-art photography and mixing like a DJ.
