Remembrance Day ceremonies taking place around the region

Several area communities are pausing for Remembrance Day ceremonies this week.

Most communities are holding ceremonies on Friday, Nov. 11 including an outdoor event in North Bay.

The city says the ceremony, organized by the Royal Canadian Legion, will be held on Remembrance Day at the Memorial Park Cenotaph on First Avenue.

Attendees are asked to be seated by 10:40 am.

East Ferris is holding a ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the cenotaph while Bonfield’s ceremony is on Thursday, Nov. 10.

St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School (SJSH), meanwhile, is honouring 31 students from the original Scollard Hall who died in World War II.

After an original memorial and statue of Mary were moved off-site during construction at the school and were unable to be re-located, a new statue and memorial plaque have been set up inside a courtyard at SJSH.

A dedication is taking place as a part of the school’s Remembrance Day ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 10.
