Inaugural red bag doorstep food drive coming to North Bay

Local residents can help tackle hunger through a new donation drive.

Purolator is supporting the North Bay Food Bank through its Tackle Hunger Red Bag doorstep food drive.

Employees of the delivery company are running events like this across Canada to help address food insecurity.

This is the inaugural event in North Bay with a goal of 500 red bags of food for the food bank.

On Saturday, volunteers will be dropping off red bags in various city neighbourhoods, including Airport hill, West Ferris, Thibeault Terrace, Graniteville and more.

Residents can fill their bags with non-perishable items and leave on their doorsteps before 9 am on Sept. 30.

That’s when Purolator volunteers will pick up the full bags and deliver them to the food bank.

“North Bay Food Bank’s most needed items this month include fruit cups, pudding cups and snack crackers,” states a release.

If you don’t receive a red bag, the company says you can donate online at the food bank’s website.
