Renovations are taking place as officials get ready to open a new daytime warming centre for those in need this winter.
Mark King, Chair of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) says the new centre is located on the 500 block of Fraser Street.
It was previously located at Northern Pines on Chippewa Street and he says DNSSAB staff undertook a search for a location.
“There were a number of locations looked at, obviously they didn’t suit the needs per se,” King says. “The need for something close to the downtown core was one of the requirements.”
He says the centre will operate from 8 am to 8 pm daily with a capacity set at 49 people.
“There are some renovations going on in the facility right now,” King says. “Extra washrooms had to be installed in the facility to allow that number of people to occupy the floor space.”
He adds with a three-year agreement in place, The Gathering Place will be operating the centre.
It’s expected to open in November.
