The next federal election may be at least two years away, but the Conservatives locally are getting started on selecting a candidate.
On Saturday, Cassidy Villeneuve will be formally announcing her intention to run for the party in Nipissing-Timiskaming.
According to LinkedIn, she’s the Chief of Staff to the Conservative Shadow Minister for Public Safety, a proud Northern Ontarian, an outdoor fitness enthusiast and a business owner.
At last check, the Liberals haven’t started the process of selecting a new candidate yet.
MP Anthony Rota’s office confirms he won’t be seeking re-election.
“His plan is to retire at the end of this term, whenever that may be,” reads a statement from Matthew Sookram, Communications Manager.
In late October, officials with the Nipissing-Timiskaming Liberal Riding Association said there is not an active search for candidates at this time as Mr. Rota will continue to serve as the riding MP until the next election is called.
The 45th Canadian federal election will take place on or before Oct. 20, 2025.
