20 basketball teams compete at Green and Gold Classic

West Ferris won the junior division title at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall’s 2nd annual Green & Gold Classic basketball tournament on the weekend.

The Trojans won 56-47 over the host Bears with MVP Rowan Waye picking up 24 points.

Thériault from Timmins won the senior final over Kapuskasing by a score of 50-43.

Twenty teams from around the region, including the Sault, Sudbury, Timmins and Huntsville competed in the event.

“We extend our sincere gratitude to Carlee Noel and Century 21, as well as Tourism North Bay, for their generous support,” says Ricky Dussault, tournament convenor and Phys. Ed. teacher at SJSH. “Their contributions have played a crucial role in making the Green &
Gold Classic a memorable and successful event.”

MVPs include:

Junior Flight: Ian McMammon (Huntsville), Ben Steven (Franco-Cité), Gavin Mitchell (Chippewa), Peyton Bolan (St. Joseph-Scollard Hall) and Rowan Waye – Finals MVP (West Ferris)

Senior Flight: Jake Fortier (Kapuskasing), Nathan Lemire (Thériault), Alex Lynds (Bishop Alexander Carter), Owen Norris (TDSS), Cole Cond (Superior Heights), Jonah Villars – Finals MVP (Thériault)
