Thanks to NoahStrong, One Kids Place will soon have a Music Program for young ones with special needs.
Natasha Roy, Director of Clinical Services at One Kids Place, says music is an important tool used in many forms of therapies.
“Music can have an amazing effect on a child’s behaviour, their emotions, cognitive abilities, communication skills and everyday lives. We are very excited about this upcoming social opportunity for our children and youth,” she adds.
The upcoming Music Program will feature various music types and genres, interactive sessions and unique hands-on opportunities for children and youth. The program will host many special guests and community partners.
The program will run in two sessions- January 16 to February 20 for children ages 6 to 11 years and from March 19 to April 23 for children 12 to 18 years old.
Jody Dugas, Noah’s Mother, says the organization is excited to support the music program, as Noah’s always had a passion for music, whether it was sitting by a bonfire listening to his dad and cousins play guitar, or teaching himself piano and guitar at home.
“Noah was able to enjoy the benefits of the music therapy programs at both Sick Kids Hospital and Holland Bloorview Rehabilitation Hospital and these services allowed him to find his voice and improve his hand mobility by strumming a guitar,” she added. “Music has the ability to heal, improve communication skills and provide comfort during difficult times. We are very happy and proud to support this program for children and youth in our community.”
