Average snow depth below normal in the area

Considering the mild weather recently it’s no real surprise that some snow survey results are below normal in the area.

Even before the warm temperatures and light rain on the weekend, the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority had recorded below normal snow depth.

“Average snow depth for all sites is 11 cm (62 % normal) and average water equivalence is 33.7 mm (123 % normal),” says Angela Mills, NBMCA Water Resources Specialist.

Readings were taken on Friday, Dec. 15.

When looking at the three measuring sites individually, North Bay is only slightly below the norm [96%] while Corbeil is at 55% and Chisholm 38%.

After Monday, Environment Canada’s forecast includes sun and cloud and above seasonal temperatures for much of the rest of the week.
