There were no injuries after city fire crews doused a basement fire in a house on the 300 block of Third Ave West Friday morning.
Acting Platoon Chief with North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, Paul Auger says they got the call just before 5 am.
“The initial attack crew found heavy fire in the basement,” he says. “They attacked the fire fairly quickly and had the fire out. All the residents made it out safely as well.”
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says five residents and a pet dog had safely evacuated the home as a result of the warning provided by the smoke alarms.
He adds the fire started in a kitchen area in the basement.
“Fire and smoke damage to the home is significant with damage estimates of approximately $80,000,” says Saunders.
Crews from all three fire stations responded to the call.
