North Bay residents packed nearly 2,100 shoeboxes for children in need last year.
That from Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse.
Officials say each shoebox is filled with toys, school supplies, and personal care items.
They’re then delivered to children in need around the world, including many who are suffering from war, poverty, disease and disaster.
Over 154,000 shoeboxes were packed in Ontario and 425,000 across Canada.
“We are thrilled to see the enthusiastic participation of Canadians in Operation Christmas Child,” says Kendra Shields, the organization’s Canadian director. “It is very encouraging to know that so many generous people want to give hope and joy to children in need around the world.”
Although drop-off locations for gifts are closed until November, anyone can still get involved by packing a shoebox gift online at PackaBox.ca.
