$4.1 million worth of improvements for city transit

Federal and provincial funding is helping North Bay upgrade public transit in the city.

A combined total of $4.1 million is going toward several initiatives.

The city’s share of that amount is $1.1 million.

Anthony Rota, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming, Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, and Peter Chirico, Mayor of the City of North Bay made the announcement on Friday.

The city is purchasing two new gas buses and six hybrid buses with the money.

Improvements at the transit terminal will also be made, including a video screen displaying arrival times, new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.

“These upgrades, from new buses to maintenance equipment and terminal improvements, highlight our commitment to safe, modern transit, as well as our goal of reducing emissions,” says Chirico. “The City of North Bay is proud of this collaborative effort and its positive impact on our community.”

Sidewalk tractors and transit-vehicle lifting devices also being purchased while passenger counters will be installed on buses.
