DNSSAB marking National Paramedic Services week

‘Help Us Help You’ is the theme for this National Paramedic Services Week.

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board says there has been a significant change in recent years to the way Paramedic Services operate, diversifying into community outreach, expanded education and research.

They say Nipissing’s Community Paramedic program brings healthcare into the homes of its residents, helping to keep them healthier at home and avoid hospital visits and admissions.

Officials say it’s done through a collaborative approach with referrals from community partners and internal Paramedic referrals.

They’re also looking for opportunities to expand Community Paramedic services, as well as “treat and release” and “alternate destination” programs.

“DNSSAB has an amazing team of paramedics that do the hard work, day in and day out while maintaining compassion and professionalism,” says Mark King, DNSSAB Chair. “Their value to the community can’t be overstated.”

In 2023, paramedic services in the Nipissing district answered 18,462 emergency calls and 2,280 community paramedicine visits.
