FedNor support for Antoine Nation multi-use facility

Antoine Nation is building a new multi-use facility north of Mattawa.

Anthony Rota, MP for Nipissing–Timiskaming, announced $200,000 to support the construction of the new 5,000 square foot building.

Officials say FedNor’s support will help build a commercial kitchen.

“[This] is an investment in the long-term success of community and economic development in Antoine Nation,” says Rota. “When communities have the resources they need to support businesses and pursue economic opportunities, they are strong and vibrant.”

Officials say the centre will act as Antoine Nation’s first culturally appropriate headquarters for upcoming and future economic development initiatives.

Along with supporting several community activities including resource stewardship and Algonquin medicine, the centre will support the delivery of programs in nationhood rebuilding, sustainable job creation, youth retention and more.

FedNor says additional benefits include the creation of 14 jobs during construction, skills training so a dozen people can work with Ontario Power Generation at dams in the area and support another 12 people with starting businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
