Sharing medical records to provide seamless care in the northeast

Nearly two dozen hospitals across the Northeast begin sharing electronic patient medical records on Tuesday.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre went live in the first phase of the ONE (one person, one record, one system) initiative in 2019, along with the West Parry Sound Health Centre and the Sault Area Hospital.

The list of 23 partners includes general hospitals in Mattawa and West Nipissing.

Officials say the hospitals have been working on the single electronic health information system since 2018, noting patients will experience more seamless care in the region.

They say that will reduce the need for repeat testing and help prevent medical errors by providing clinicians with the information they need to make informed care decisions.
