Le Carnaval being held virtually

Plenty of remote activities are lined up for the 59th edition of Le Carnaval des Compagnons.

Various community groups are involved in the annual event, which will be held virtually.

A mass will be held Sunday, Feb. 6 at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Bonhomme Carnaval and officials from Les Compagnons des francs loisirs on hand to open Le Carnival.

That will be followed by an afternoon of online games on Les Compagnons’ Facebook page.

Celebrations continue throughout the week with music, dance, video games, bingo, a cyber book fair, contests and more.

Bonhomme Carnaval will visit schools virtually with francophone shows and educational activity kits lined up.

Damien Robitaille, a francophone artist, will offer a presentation to both Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord and Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario.

On Thursday, Feb. 10 there’s an evening of fine art with artwork available for online bidding at lescompagnons.org.

The week wraps up on Feb. 12 at Amelia Park with a day of outdoor activities including sledding, bubble soccer, a lumberjack contest, food and pictures with Bonhomme.

The traditional closing event that night will include the unveiling of Bonhomme and a show with Justine Gogoua.
