Take Back the Night 2022: Lighting Up The Night Together
Take Back the Night began in the 70’s as a street march hosted in solidarity and protest against street violence and harassment. This year they are pleased to announce that they will be resuming the Take Back The Night tradition of holding an in person event and march.
They will be continuing with last year’s theme of ‘Lighting Up The Night & Shedding Light On Gender Based Violence Together. Since they are continuing with the theme of Lighting Up The Night Together, luminaria kits will still be available at the event for free, or by donation for those who are unable to attend but still want to show support at home. they encourage folks supporting from home to put their luminaria in their window or on their porch and to share a photo on social media using the hashtag #NipissingTBTN2022.
The in-person event will be held at Memorial Park (1st Avenue & Ferguson Street) on September 15th. The event will begin at 6PM with luminaria decorating and raffle entry from 6-6:45. The raffle will end at 6:45 and be drawn at 6:50. Opening ceremonies will start at 7PM and the march will begin at 7:30 PM. The march will take 45 minutes going through downtown North Bay and end at City Hall with more speakers and wrap up at the parking lot in front of the Amelia Rising office.
In addition, they will be hosting two decorating workshops prior to Take Back The Night. A luminaria decorating workshop for Nipissing Students on September 13th from 11AM-2PM and an expressive arts sign decorating workshop on Wednesday September 14th from 6PM-8PM at the Amelia Rising office.
