Rural Ontario Development Fund money flowing to Bonfield

Bonfield is receiving just over $32,000 to address barriers to growth, protect local jobs, and better position the community to attract and retain investment.

MPP Vic Fedeli announced the money through the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) Program.

“We’re pleased that with this $32,250 investment, Bonfield will have the opportunity to strengthen their economy and keep workers on the job,” says Fedeli. “The next round of the ROD is now open to accept applications, and we encourage our rural municipalities, businesses, Indigenous groups, and not-for-profit organizations in Nipissing to apply for funding.”

Bonfield Mayor Narry Paquette says the support will make a meaningful difference as they target markets for the Township to attract new investments and to assist in retaining and expanding current businesses.

“This investment in our work will strengthen our capacity to develop a more robust economic community,” she says. “The Township primarily depends on residential taxes. Residents feel that their residential taxes are too high. This is a reality of small communities, and the Council understands that growth in assessments and the economy is necessary to remain attractive as a place to live and grow. Your support will bring positive change to the people we serve.”

The second intake of the program includes a $20 million investment.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 26.
