Provincial funding to help connect 1,250 people in Nipissing to primary care

Nearly $840,000 in provincial money is helping the Near North Family Health Organization create a new Family Health Team.

Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing, announced the funding will connect up to 1,250 people to primary care in North Bay and Callander.

“The Nipissing Community has been calling for increased government support for primary care, and today we’re answering that call with an $837,000 investment to address attachment pressures,” says Fedeli. “The Near North Family Health Organization is working hard to provide local families with better access to high-quality health care services, closer to home.”

Residents in Nipissing and across Ontario can get connected to primary care by registering through Health Care Connect at Ontario.ca/healthcareconnect.

“This investment will allow us to expand access to interdisciplinary, team-based care, bringing additional healthcare professionals and services together to better support our patients, improve health outcomes, and increase our capacity to attach more patients who currently do not have a family physician,” says Dr. Blackadar, Lead Physician, Near North FHO. “Our long-term goal is to establish the Near North Family Health Team as a comprehensive primary care hub for North Bay and the Nipissing area, improving access to care and building a stronger, more sustainable healthcare system for the communities we serve.”

The province has set a goal of connecting every person to primary care by 2029.
