Nancy Drive fire leads to fire code charges

City fire officials say a Nancy Drive homeowner has been charged for not having working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms after a fire on Tuesday morning.

In a release, Deputy chief Greg Saunders says they involve five offences under the Ontario Fire Code.

He says firefighters responded just before 7 am and quickly extinguished the fire.

“Firefighters did confirm that all five residents were able to safely evacuate the home,” says Saunders. “One resident was taken to hospital and remains in their care after suffering significant smoke inhalation after trying to extinguish the fire.”

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services is reminding everyone that properly located and maintained smoke and carbon monoxide alarms save lives.

Officials add Failure to install and maintain the alarms can and will result in charges.
